A day to remember
Recovery Month ended on a real high for A Better Tomorrow. Some of the staff and clients headed to Eaton Manor for a sponsored poetry walk. Together we raised nearly £400 for the charity.
It was a day of fresh air, good food, a few sore legs, laughter and time for reflection – about how far we have come and how much further we can go together.
Gardens, games and some sneaky hills
Eaton Manor very kindly gave us the run of their beautiful event space for the day. We explored the secret garden. We had a go at the garden games. Some of us got quite competitive.
Then came the main event. The 1.5 mile poetry walk winds through stunning countryside, with poems to discover along the way. It looks gentle on paper. It is not! There are some deceptively steep climbs in there. But everyone kept going, cheered each other on and made it round. True recovery spirit.
Lunch (and a milk rescue)
All that walking works up an appetite, Lee, Stacey and our baking team had us covered. They prepared a fantastic lunch and it went down a treat.
A big thank you to Joe Chattell at Tesco, who kindly supplied our tea, coffee and sugar. There was just one problem. Someone forgot the milk! Thankfully the brilliant milk vending service from local favourites Proper Good Dairy saved the day!
Words that stayed with us
We ended the day together. First we heard a poem written anonymously for the event. It was honest and moving, prompting many of us to reflect.
Then Gareth shared his own journey. He spoke openly about where he has been and where he is heading. This week he moves into his own flat. It is a huge step and we could not be prouder. His story inspired everyone in the room and showed what recovery can look like.

Thank you
A huge thank you to Nichola Cariss, Abi Bore and Nell at Eaton Manor. You made us so welcome and it was so very generous of you to donate the space for the day. We are so grateful. Many clients commented they appreciated the ability to get out of the town for the day and get into the countryside. Some left feeling inspired to do more walking as part of their recovery journey.
Thank you too to everyone who sponsored our walkers. Every pound helps us keep supporting people in recovery across Telford and beyond.
There is still time to get involved. If you would like to sponsor our walkers, please visit our Donorbox page.
