We’re delighted to share some very exciting news about A Better Tomorrow’s continued growth and the positive impact we’re making across our community in Telford.

Our mission:

At A Better Tomorrow is a peer-led organisation dedicated to offering supported accommodation and transformative programmes to men and women who have been affected by drug or alcohol addiction, mental health issues, homelessness, or domestic abuse. Our approach is built on understanding, experience, and the belief that everyone deserves a second chance and the support they need to rebuild their lives.

Growing future:

Today, we’re proud to be providing 120 beds of supported accommodation across Telford. 120 safe spaces where individuals can begin their journey towards recovery and independence.
But our commitment to the community doesn’t end here.

We’re thrilled to announce our expansion plans:

• 8 additional beds will become available before the end of 2025
• 12 more beds each year for the next two years
• By 2027, we’ll be offering at least 152 beds of supported accommodation

Our expansion means we’ll be able to support even more people who need us most, offering them not just a roof over their heads, but a comprehensive support system designed to help them rebuild their confidence, skills and redirect their future.

The power of partnership:

Growth on this scale requires more than just vision – it requires partnership, investment, and a shared belief in the value of every individual. We’re incredibly grateful to the organisations that are helping us make this expansion possible.

The Clothworkers Foundation has provided funding for fire doors across our properties.

AICO has kindly fitted fire alarm systems across our network. Fire safety is fundamental in any residential setting, and thanks to The Clothworkers Foundation, we’ve been able to install and upgrade these essential systems.

The Millichope Foundation has made a vital contribution towards our core operating costs. This type of funding is at the heart of any charitable organisation; it has enabled ABT to keep our doors open, our staff supported, and our programmes running effectively.

The Rowlands Trust has generously funded new furniture for our classroom activities space. Having a comfortable, welcoming environment for learning and group activities is essential for engagement and recovery.

Merkur has provided £1,000 towards our important activity costs. Our holistic programme addresses physical, psychological, and social aspects of addiction, empowering individuals on their path to lasting recovery with personalised treatment plans.

Shropshire Community Foundation Acorn Fund to further enhance our activities programme via their Acorn Fund, by helping us to purchase equipment for our clients to go fishing. Fishing offers residents a peaceful, therapeutic outdoor activity that promotes mindfulness, patience and connection with nature. It’s a great way for people to take time away from the pressures of recovery.

The Albert Hunt Trust is part-financing a support worker’s salary. Our support workers are the heart of what we do. They’re there day to day, building relationships with residents, offering guidance through challenges, and celebrating successes along the recovery journey. The Albert Hunt Trust’s investment in our staffing means we can maintain the high level of personalised, consistent support that makes such a difference to outcomes for the people we serve.

The William A Cadbury Charitable Trust has kindly helped towards our volunteer costs. Volunteering at ABT starts with our clients. They bring additional capacity and invaluable time to our organisation. Whether they’re supporting activities, offering mentorship, or helping with practical tasks, our volunteers enhance the experience for our residents.

What growth means for Telford and Wrekin:

Every single bed we add represents more than just accommodation; it is a new pathway to recovery. We will be able to reach more people and give them the chance to step away from crisis to access support.

Our peer-led approach means most of our staff and volunteers have lived experience of the challenges our residents face, creating an environment of genuine understanding, empathy and the challenges that can make the difference in someone’s recovery journey.

Looking Ahead

As we expand our capacity over the coming years, we remain committed to the principles that have guided us from the beginning. We’re excited about what the future holds and grateful to everyone – funders, staff, volunteers, Telford and Wrekin Council and the wider Telford community – who backs our mission and supports our work.
